Bunny Braves the Day: A First-Day-of-School Story

Bunny Braves the Day: A First-Day-of-School Story
 by Suzanne Bloom

When a little bunny is nervous about starting school, his big sister hops right in to help him tackle his first-day jitters.

It’s the first day of school, and little Bunny feels like something is flip-flopping in his belly. He won’t know anyone. He doesn’t know how to tie his shoes or how to read. And what if no one likes him? Can Bunny’s sister convince him that the first day won’t be a horrible disaster? Award-winning author and illustrator Suzanne Bloom’s signature gentle humor, exuberant characters, and reassuring message will resonate with every child who has similar anxiety about the first day of school. (Description from the publisher)

Author and illustrator, Suzanne Bloom --

My imaginary friends and I welcome you to our 20th book, Bunny Braves the Day.

Over the years actual friends and many friendly readers have been an inspiration, as have the illustrations in my favorite books.

Sometime during art school (Cooper Union) I began collecting picture books.
I had a vague notion, first expressed in a 6th grade autobiography, that making picture books was what I wanted to do.

A modest career as a free lance illustrator, architectural renderer and wooden-toy maker gave me the undeserved confidence to write, illustrate and pitch my first book. And then to rewrite, and re-rewrite what turned into “We Keep a Pig in the Parlor”.

My books have received such lovely awards as The Theodore Seuss Geisel honor, ALA Notable, PA One Book, Texas 2x2, but the one that makes me smile the most was bestowed by a third grader in Texas who said, “Ma’am, you were born to draw."
